SO(10): a theory of fermion masses and mixings

چکیده
SO(10) grand unified theory seems to have all the ingredients to be a complete unified theory of quarks and leptons. I review here its minimal, possibly realistic versions, both supersymmetric and not.

Fermion masses and mixings in a flavour symmetric GUT
We describe a supersymmetric Grand Unified Theory based on the gauge group SU(5), or SO(10), invariant under the interchange of any SU(5), or SO(10), with each family multiplet transforming non trivially under one different individual group factor. A realistic pattern of fermion masses and mixings is obtained as a result of an appropriate choice out of the many possible discretely degenerate va...
متن کاملFermion mass relations in a supersymmetric SO(10) theory
Neutrino and charged fermion masses provide important constraints on grand unified theories. We illustrate this by focusing on a renormalizable, supersymmetric SO(10) theory proposed long ago, that recently attracted great interest in view of its minimality. We show how the nature of the light Higgs, which depends on the GUT scale fields, gets reflected on the precise predictions for fermion ma...

The problem of fermion masses and mixings is discussed in the context of super-symmetric grand unification theories. Some predictive frameworks based on the SU(5), SO(10) and SU(6) models are reviewed.
متن کاملA Predictive Superunification SO ( 10 ) × ∆ 48 ( SU ( 3 ) ) × U ( 1 ) Model for Fermion Masses and Mixings
Based on a few basic assumptions, a predictive supersymmetric grand unification G U = SO(10) × ∆ 48 (SU (3)) × U (1) model is proposed. Thus, all the observed 45 chiral fermions with additional 3 right-handed neutrinos are unified into an irreducible triplet 16-dimensional spinor representation of G U. Electroweak symmetry breaking naturally requires two Higgs doublets which belong to a single ...
متن کاملFermion masses and mixings in gauge theories
The recent evidence for neutrino oscillations stimulate us to discuss again the problem of fermion masses and mixings in gauge theories. In the standard model, several forms for quark mass matrices are equivalent. They become ansatze within most extensions of the standard model, where also relations between quark and lepton sectors may hold. In a seesaw framework, these relations can constrain ...
